In her original, hand-drawn, lithograph prints of the Frutti di Mare Suite (Calamari, Baby Squids, and Kraken), Hackenberg depicts marine debris that mimics the pages of a 19th century naturalist’s portfolio of edible sea life, and uses identifying text in the style of letterpress impressions of that era. This print series is based on her original colored-pencil and graphite drawings on paper of the same name, which she redrew for these prints in a collaborative artist residency with master printers at Tamarind Institute, University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
